No God Like You

Who is a God like You,
Pardoning iniquity
And passing over the transgression of the remnant of His heritage?
He does not retain His anger forever,
Because He delights in mercy.” Micah 7:18 (NKJV)

Who is a God like unto Thee? The question answers itself—for there is none like Him. Kings may boast of power, philosophers of wisdom, and men of wealth, but none can compare to the Lord of mercy. The gods of this world demand performance. The gods of our flesh demand payback. But the God of Scripture delights to pardon.

Let us look in the mirror and confess what we know to be true: we are wanderers. Not once, but often. Not in ignorance, but in full knowledge. We, like Israel, have followed our own way. We have chosen the crooked path when the Lord called us to the straight. Our hearts have been fountains of self-will and rebellion. And yet . . . He pardons.

As I read through the dark pages of Micah, what music these closing words make to my ears! Pardoning iniquity—not overlooking it, not ignoring it, but removing it altogether. As though it had never been. As though the sins which so deeply stained our record were erased by the blood of the coming Lamb.

He will again have compassion on us,
And will subdue our iniquities.
You will cast all our sins
Into the depths of the sea. (v.19)

Look at the language of divine forgiveness—He will subdue our iniquities. Not just forgive them but conquer them. The sin that once ruled us shall be ruled by Him. And not only subdued but cast away—hurled into the sea, not to be retrieved, not to be remembered.

The Lord does not hang our sin like a trophy over the mantle of heaven to remind us of what we’ve done. No, He buries it in the depths and plants a sign above the shore that reads: “No Fishing.”

And what is the reason for this remarkable grace? Is it because of our repentance? No, though we must repent. Is it because of our change of behavior? No, though change is the fruit of grace. Hear the prophet:

You will give truth to Jacob
And mercy to Abraham,
Which You have sworn to our fathers
From days of old. (v.20)

It is because of His covenant. It is because God is a promise-keeping God. It rests in God Himself. Though Jacob be unfaithful, the God of Jacob is not. Though Abraham's children stumble, the Lord does not forget His oath. The mercy we receive today is tied to promises made long before we were born—unchangeable, sealed, and eternally sure.

So we take heart. You may be wearied by your own failures, but your God is not weary of mercy. He delights in it. He pours it out not reluctantly, but joyfully. You may come to Him again today with the bruises of your rebellion and find that the door of grace still swings wide on the hinges of everlasting love.

Who is a God like our God?

There is none.
There never was.
There never will be.
