Why Would I Vote?

That’s a good question. Let me share why I vote.

First, Jesus engaged with the government in certain ways (e.g. with taxes in Matthew 22:15-22).

Second, Jesus knew that His spiritual Kingdom is not of this world. It is greater than all the earthly physical kingdoms of this world and will supersede them (John 18:28-38).

Third, it’s an opportunity to use a US freedom provided by the Constitution and amendments and defended by the US military and judicial branch throughout the years.

How do you know who or what to vote for?

That’s a good question. Let me share how I know who or what to vote for.

First, I pray for God’s wisdom on how to vote (James 1:2-8).

Then, I start the listening process, aware that He could guide me in a variety of ways and times (Romans 8:14).

Next, I review the primary roles of government found in Scripture: providing safety, freedom, & justice (Romans 13:1-10 & 1 Timothy 2:1-4).

Then, I research the candidates and/or issues while avoiding a rush to judgment (Proverbs 19:2).

Finally, whatever God tells me to do — or whatever I sense peace from God about doing — I do that (Luke 6:46).
