Read Colossians 1

Paul speaks of a “mystery” in the first chapter of Colossians. Something that has been hidden from the world, but is now being revealed to all who put their faith in Jesus. A mystery made possible by the redemption we have through the cross…”Christ in you, the hope of glory” (vs.27).

In Paul’s prayer for this church, he asks that they be “strengthened with all power according to his glorious might”. He is asking for supernatural strength in our inner being that can only come from the indwelling of the Spirit…Christ in you. So, how does this happen? We are indwelled by his Spirit by putting our faith in Jesus, but how are we strengthened with supernatural power to live the life God created us for?

I believe the key is found in vs. 15-20; the preeminence of Christ. My goal as a follower of Jesus is not to live for him, but to allow him to live through me. My goal is Jesus…making him preeminent (first, most important, the priority) in my life. Worshipping him, praising him, obeying him, knowing him, loving him. My intimate connection to Jesus is what empowers the Spirit to work in me, and through me. As I intentionally engage in relationship with the One who created all things, is before all things, and holds all things together – I am supernaturally endued with his power and filled with his glory. I then become a conduit through which he can powerfully work to share his glory with others.

Application: Consider – How are you daily plugging in to the power source that created all things? What does your relationship with Jesus look like right now? Pray – ask God to reveal any areas in your life in which Jesus is not preeminent, and for the strength to surrender those areas to Him.
