I love telling other people how God has taken care of me. As I tell those stories, God has a way of reminding me how good He has been to me, and my family, along the way. As I recall faith from the past, it gives me faith to confront whatever I face today.
Deuteronomy is a book in which God continually tells Israel to remember. Chapter 9 goes through specific stories so Israel will remember how good God has been. First, it is established God is getting ready to use them – not because they are righteous – but rather in spite of their unrighteousness. Most of the time, our sin is used by Satan to discourage us. God uses our sin to remind us He is faithful to us in spite of it. Forgetting God loves us in spite of our shortcomings leaves us in shame. This is a state God never intends for us to be in.
Be encouraged! If you are a child of God, you are accepted and beloved today. Your shortcomings are only a reminder God really does love you.
