  6. Community Gatherings

We believe that life transformation happens the most when people move from a row (sitting in a church service) to a circle (living in a community with others). Grace Groups offer an opportunity to connect with God and connect with others in the context of regular meeting times. Although most Grace Groups meet in homes, there are some that meet in coffee shops, restaurants, parks, or at Grace. Some Grace Groups offer specific Bible studies that have start and stop times, while others run continually.

Regardless of when, where or what they are studying, every Grace Group is encouraged to STORM. This stands for:

  • Shepherding – caring, comforting, challenging
  • Teaching – unlocking God’s Word, teaching for transformation not just information
  • Outreaching – being intentional about giving life to others not just living life together
  • Relationship Building – realizing that people want to belong as much as believe
  • Multiplying – investing into apprentice leaders who will lead groups of their own

While we recognize that every group is unique, our desire is that every group would STORM and change the world!

There are three types of Grace Groups:

  • Small Groups: Grace has small groups for men, women, couples, demographic groups for various ages and stages of life, and mixed groups that have a variety of ages and stages in them.
  • Discipleship Communities: Discipleship Communities are groups with roughly five members (including a leader) using the NavPress series Design for Discipleship. Discipleship Communities have been designed so that you can have "easy on and off ramps."  There are a total of seven books, and each book is 4-7 lessons in length. People can stop or start whenever is best for them. Participants can even change groups if the group they are in isn't a good fit for them. We have mens, womens, co-ed, father/son, and mother/daughter groups available. Groups meet at various times and in various locations.  Childcare is available at Grace for Discipleship Communities that meet on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings during the school year.
  • Bible Studies: Women's Bible Studies that meet during the school year on Tuesdays and Wednesdays offer childcare. There are other women's studies that meet offsite at other times during the week. Studies cover a variety of topics.

When do Grace Groups meet?

Grace Church offers literally hundreds of options for getting connected into Grace Groups. The timing and location of each group depends on the group itself. A list of all Grace Groups can be found here.

How can I get connected in a group?

Simply go to our Grace Groups Online page, search for a group, select the group that is the best fit for you, and sign-up! You’ll then be contacted by the Grace Group leader who will give you further instructions.

How can I lead a Grace Group?

We would LOVE for you to lead a Grace Group. We view our leaders as conversation facilitators, not as professors of theology! Go here to complete the online leadership questionnaire.

We want to make it as easy as possible for you to connect at Grace. We offer a number of classes, some of which are designed to give you an overview of Grace’s vision, beliefs, and mission while providing you practical tools to take your faith to the next level. You can register for a class by visiting the "Classes" category on the online calendar

Here are the classes offered in their suggested order of completion:

Vision Class

This class, taught by Senior Pastor Tim Howey, is an authentic, two-hour, action-packed class that outlines the history, uniqueness, and heartbeat behind Grace Church. It is a perfect way to catch the vision of Grace Church in a relaxed environment. Participation is highly encouraged and all questions are answered. Dinner and childcare are provided.

Beliefs Class

This four-session class walks through the beliefs of Grace Church. Although we recognize that scriptural knowledge is important, the application of that knowledge is the most important! Discussion and participation is highly recommended.

You can watch the Beliefs Classes online here

Personal Worship Class

Personal worship is essential to our growth as Christians. We encourage everyone to attend this four week class to learn:

  • How to take your Bible knowledge and let it transform your life
  • The basics of personal Bible study, prayer, journaling, and worship
  • How to have a more consistent prayer life
  • How to, practically, move forward in your Christian life

You can watch the Personal Worship Classes online here.

Mission Class

The mission of Grace Church is “To Love, To Learn, To Lead… Changing Lives For Christ.” But what does this really mean? This three week study unpacks the three main aspects of the mission.

  • The concept of “Love.”
  • The importance of “learning” and growing in your Christian walk.
  • How you can “lead” not only within the walls of Grace Church but, most importantly, outside the walls of Grace!

You can watch the Mission Classes online here.

Personal Gifting

Did you know you were SHAPED to serve God? That’s right! Every believer has been equipped with a personal SHAPE. Through this class you’ll learn about your Spiritual Gifts, Heart, Abilities, Personality, and Experience. After this class, you’ll have the confidence to serve in your area of giftedness and strengths!

Due to the nature of this course, it is only available on campus.

Every spring and fall, Grace launches a university model discipleship emphasis called Wednesdays@Grace. We cover topics related to marriage, finances, faith, apologetics and a variety of other areas.

To view a list of available classes and to register, visit the "Wednesdays@Grace" Category on the online calendar. Please note: Wednesdays@Grace are officially on summer break. Stay tuned for more information on the classes that will start in the fall.

The Grace Church Men’s ministry is passionate about seeing men become the leaders God has called them to become. We have a desire to see men move from where they currently are to where God wants them to be!

The main connection point for our Men’s Ministry is the quarterly men’s breakfast. We gather together one Saturday morning each quarter to hear from some of Kansas City’s best speakers, pastors, and leaders. From these events, we encourage men to get plugged into Grace Groups that are specifically focused on intentional men-to-men discipleship. Hundreds of men are currently going through the Design For Discipleship books and are experiencing amazing life-change!

To view all men’s events, please visit the "Men" category on the online calendar.

The Grace Church Women’s Ministry is comprised of women who love God, love others, and prove it! Our passionate cry is to connect women to the heart of God and build lasting friendships that go beyond the superficial. Understanding the hectic lives of the modern woman, our ministry offers a variety of connection points.

Eve’s Night Out

This quarterly event is geared towards giving ladies an opportunity to relax, have fun, meet other ladies and be inspired to live for something greater than themselves. Past Eve’s Night Outs have included PJ parties, air-brush photo sessions, spa nights, and more!

Fall / Spring Events

Twice a year, all of the women of Grace gather together for a time of worship, teaching, and community. This offers an undistracted time to connect with other ladies and hear from God.

Women’s Grace Groups

One of the strengths of the Grace Women’s Ministry are the Grace Groups that meet throughout the week. These are intentional times of study (whether at Grace or in homes) where ladies from all walks of life and backgrounds come to learn from God’s Word and experience life together.

To view all upcoming women’s events, please visit the "Women" category on the online calendar.

If you're looking for a fun and unique way to get plugged in at Grace, our Community Gatherings will be the place to start! They consist of people whose lives are connected by age, life stage, etc. These gatherings will give you the opportunity to meet people who share the same interests.

Go to the online calendar (“Community Gatherings” category) to view upcoming activities.
