Read 2 Corinthians 5

“Why am I here?”

Ever ask that question?

If you’re a follower of Jesus, ask it a different way: “God, if I’m a Christian and heaven is far better than earth, why are keeping me here?”

The answer? People need to hear about Jesus. God wants to use you to help.

In 2 Corinthians 5, Paul begins talking about heaven. Christians have a new home in heaven (verses 1-4). Christians will be in the presence of Jesus in heaven (verse 8). Christians will appear before the judgment seat in heaven (verses 9-10).

Application – Picture your home in heaven. Picture being in Jesus’ presence. Imagine standing before the judgment seat and worshiping God.

In 2 Corinthians 5, Paul turns to evangelism. The love of Christ compels us to take action on earth (verse 14). We now look at people’s souls instead of their physical exteriors (verse 16). God gave us “the ministry of reconciliation” to reconcile people to God through Christ. God gave us “the word of reconciliation” to open people’s eyes through the Bible.

Why does God leave Christians on earth? To “evangelize”, which literally means “to bring someone good news”.

Prayer – Ask God, “Who have you put around me to bring the good news about Jesus? Which friends, family, neighbors, classmates, and coworkers?” (Listen to God and write their names on a list.) Ask God, “Would you please give me the chance to share the good news about Jesus with ______?” (Pray for each by name.)
